How to wear (and keep) selvedge denim
Rigid Japanese selvedge starts stiff and ends up yours. Here is how to get it there.

Our Selvedge Bootcut Jean is woven from 14 oz Japanese selvedge denim. On day one it is firm and deep indigo. Six months later it has your creases, your fades and your shape.
The first weeks
- Size close. Rigid denim gives a little at the waist and seat as you wear it.
- Wear it often. The more you wear it, the sooner it softens.
- Wait to wash. Give it a few weeks before the first wash, so the fades follow the way you move.
Washing
Turn the jean inside out, wash cold on a gentle cycle on its own, and hang it to dry. Skip the dryer: heat shrinks the cotton and flattens the colour.
What the selvedge is
Turn up the hem and you will see a clean, finished edge with a coloured thread. It is the self-finished edge of the fabric, woven on a narrow shuttle loom — slower to make, and the sign of denim made the traditional way.
Pair it with
The Denim Trucker Jacket in matching indigo, or the Cashmere Crewneck in camel for a softer contrast.
